The Seasons in Pastel

I’ll show you several great underpainting techniques that are perfect for any artist looking to add an element of spontaneity to their work while supporting and enhancing their landscape compositions. I’ll show you step-by-step you how to take advantage of possibilities and without getting too out of control!

Spring

In this lesson we will paint the delicate budding foliage of springtime. We will be painting a marsh with many beautiful and challenging elements.

Summer

I love to paint outdoors in the summer here in Oregon. There is one problem: so much GREEN! It can get downright boring. So let’s get a deeper view into greens and see if we can make some sense of them and make them a bit more exciting. I’ll show you step by step how I make choices to keep summer painting interesting.

Autumn

I always get excited about painting in the fall. There is such an explosion of color! It seems as though everywhere you look there are layers of glowing foliage and you see trees in your neighborhood that you don’t notice any other time of year!

Winter

The low angle of light and the glistening snow make winter a challenging time of year to paint the landscape. I’ll take you step by step through this piece using very little white!

SUPPLEMENTAL VIDEOS

These videos will extend your understanding of the key concepts presented this month. Spend some time with these. Some of them are YouTube videos available to the public but they fit nicely with our study, so I wanted you to be aware of them and take a look.
