Luscher Farm

This lesson is for intermediate and advanced painters. Capturing the play of light across an expanse is challenging and very rewarding as a painter. This particular scene is a lovely example of how light and shadow interplay to create a visually beautiful moment. I did one of my very first pastel landscapes from this photo, so it’s pretty special to me. It really is a spectacular piece of reference; capturing a dramatic and fleeting moment. When artists speak of “chasing light” well, I think I caught it here, just for a second or two. I revisit it now and again, very grateful for the path it set me on! I hope you enjoy painting along with me! I recommend following along for a first try, then using one of the alternate reference photos to do a second piece using the same steps; just applying them to the alternate reference photo or better yet, go on a photo outing and capture some light!

The Watch & Paint Lessons are an eye opening journey that will allow you to become familiar with the medium of pastels and gain the ability to orchestrate it into lovely compositions. Live Lessons happen every month and give you a chance to directly ask Marla questions while she is teaching and painting. Its an invaluable resource in moving forward with pastel painting.
