Across the Valley

This lesson is for intermediate and advanced painters. This lesson was full of some new challenges! I hope you’ll take them on and use them to push yourself a bit. The composition of the lesson piece is a bit more complex than some of the previous lessons. There is a danger of getting too many unrelated bit and pieces rather than a pleasing whole, so group together shapes of similar value. There are lots of layers to create the illusion of depth and atmosphere and there is a strong complementary palette that could be jarring if it is not orchestrated well. Make sure to watch my video, “The Influences of Aerial Perspective” at

This is a paid Watch & Paint lesson. In order to see the lesson, you’d need to Sign Up for one of the lesson packages or LOGIN HERE if you’ve already paid.

The Watch & Paint Lessons are an eye opening journey that will allow you to become familiar with the medium of pastels and gain the ability to orchestrate it into lovely compositions. Live Lessons happen every month and give you a chance to directly ask Marla questions while she is teaching and painting. Its an invaluable resource in moving forward with pastel painting.
