Steph Teeter – Winter Glow

Critique Submitted: December 18th 11:09PM

Hi – just finished your Winter Glow lesson. still struggling with negative space, getting it right the first time, – fussing. This was the first time I’ve worked on tinted paper – a dark paper is not a good choice for snow scenes I think! Still problems with the sledding painting, and the lesson copy lesson painting is too dark and too purple… but time to move on. But, much learned with each attempt. Looking forward to being your student!

Thanks so much – that was very thorough and thoughtful! I love that you can see things and articulate them so well. very helpful. I’m looking forward to the next one. I’m still conservative with color, not sure where my style will land yet – but getting a better feel for the medium – it is powerful! also gaining more appreciate for the dark paper, and am trying some under-paintings with colored graphite. endless possibilities-

(I made the sledding guys up – felt like the scene needed some life 🙂

    Hi Steph,

These are excellent pieces. I think that working with the negative spaces can be challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll find that it makes the painting process easier and more fun…at least for me it does. Keep up the great work. I’ll look forward to seeing more of your work!
